This year’s Red Bull Music Academy comes to Manchester for the first time on January 29th and 30th.
The Manchester arm of the Red Bull Music Academy 2010 gets straight into full swing with unique events comprising of workshop sessions, lectures and parties on January 29th at The Deaf Institute and January 30th at Common and The Roadhouse.
Red Bull Music Academy is a platform for those who shape the global musical future, an annual musical think-tank and workshop that has been travelling the world’s cultural hubs since 1998. This year for the first time, the city of Manchester dives deep into the Academy wonder-world of cutting-edge music and true-school knowledge.
The Deaf Institute on Friday will play host to lectures which will see pioneers of days-gone-by and musical legends of tomorrow rubbing shoulders, to reveal closely-guarded secrets of mixing desk magic and shed light on the musical hybrids that have shaped this unique cultural metropolis. Before lectures from dance music pioneers Marshall Jefferson and A Guy Called Gerald, local music makers can experiment on diverse technical equipment and get cracking on the work stations that are specially set up for the occasion. Things move into the night with a DJ set from Marshall and a Live set from Gerald, whilst downstairs the line up continues with, among others, Hot City and Mooken.
The proceedings continue on Saturday at Common with a very exclusive lecture, followed by sets from Mount Kimbie, dÉbruit, Steve Mason and Sean Vinylment.
And closing up on the Saturday night Manchester’s freshest club night Hoya Hoya present the Hoya Hoya Red Bull Music Academy Special. Showcasing the stuttersoul sounds of Academy 2007 alumni, Hudson Mohawke and London 2010 participant Illum Sphere, alongside many others including dubstep star Kode9 and Werk Disc’s Actress.
