If you like your festivals green and folky then put the 18th- 20th June in your diary and make sure not to make any plans that weekend!
Yep, it’s that time of year again kids. The Big Session Festival is hitting De Montfort Hall & Gardens for it’s sixth year and the line up looks awesome. Winner of the 2010 BBC Radio 2 Folk award for best album, Cara Dillon and last year’s folk award winner Chris Wood join the additions to the festival, with Beat masters Dreadzone taking up the late night slot to get us all a’ movin and a’ groovin. After ”getting knocked down”, Chumbawamba get back up again and make a welcome return, with Jackie Oats, Raghu Dixit and Dervish- amongst others- thrown into the mix. Oysterband are also returning as the festival hosts with various performances in different guises across the weekend.
Phew, 2010 looks to have the foundations to be the most exciting Big Session yet! As ever the festival will play host to an eclectic mix of emerging and established artists, not to mention a vast range of real ale! Sounds good to me!
This award-winning festival- right from its deeply green credentials with the most impressive recycling initiatives, through to the Kids Zone keeping younger festival goers entertained- makes sure that everyone enjoys the music whatever the weather, with all sets being undercover on indoor and outdoor marquee stages. So there’s something here for everyone!
Big Session also prides itself on it’s fantastic range of quality grub. There’ll be loads of food outlets open throughout the weekend and there’ll also be a massive range of real ales and cider from local and regional breweries available to sample. But try not to get so drunk you forget the whole festival!
Early Bird tickets are priced at £62.50 for the whole weekend are available to buy up until 28th February. Buy tickets and check out the full line up by clicking here or ring the De Montfort Hall Box Office on 0116 233 3111. Remember, last year’s festival was a sell-out so be sure to get your tickets in advance!
