Dig out your ballet shoes and tutus- following a hugely successful run at Sadler’s Wells, Matthew Bourne’s interpretation of Swan Lake is back on a national UK tour, stopping off at Birmingham’s Hippodrome and Liverpool’s Empire Theatre on the way.
Since it’s world premiere in 1995, Bourne’s adaption of Swan Lake has won loads of awards, including three Tony’s, The South Bank Show Award 1997 and the Gay Times Readers Poll 1996 for ”Most Amazing Live Show”.
Casting for the 2009 revival includes a mix of established New Adventures performers and newcomers. Richard Winsor and Jonathan Ollivier are both making their debuts in the coveted role of The Swan. The main man himself, Matthew Bourne, said: “I am delighted to be taking the production out on the road with this amazing new cast. In my view, the best we have ever had.”
Swan Lake plays a string of UK venues, kicking off on the January 26th and ending on April 3rd. Critics have been raving about Bourne’s Swan Lake, with several reviews calling it ”funny, dynamic and sexy.” Always a good mix!
